PLS Financial Services, Inc.
In 1997, Dan Wolfberg had a vision. He saw a need for affordable, friendly and convenient check-cashing services in communities underserved by banks. Dan, who had recently graduated from Tulane University with a degree in economics, hailed from a long line of financial-service entrepreneurs. His grandfather founded his own company in 1939, and his father's company continues to prosper.
Dan chose to partner with the one man who shared his vision and his heritage: his brother Bob. Starting with a handful of Chicago currency exchanges, the two founded PLS Financial Services. Dan's vision proved to be foresighted, and soon PLS was managing dozens of PLS Check Cashers in several states. PLS' commitment to professionalism and service helped the company differentiate itself from the many competitors which soon followed.
The company soon expanded into the lending business, filling a gap by providing small, short-term loans not available from traditional lenders. As PLS Loan Store grew rapidly, so did the portfolio of financial services PLS offered customers.
“The letters ‘PLS' stand for ‘People, Location, Service,'” says Dan. “As we continue to focus on those keys, our brand will continue to grow in value.”
As President of PLS, Dan oversees the operations of all PLS business units. Dan's family history in the financial service business has given him a sixth sense for best practices in marketing retail financial services, and he's continually innovating ways to serve the customer better.

If your grandfather and your father both founded their own financial services companies, the financial services company you start had better be a good one. Such was the challenge for Bob Wolfberg, who received his law degree from the University of Pennsylvania after earning a BA from Tulane University.
Bob's father had always taught him “you have to lead from the front to be the best,” and that's exactly the path Bob chose. Partnering with his brother Dan and starting with a network of currency exchanges in Chicago, Bob sought to lead the financial service center industry from the front, with stores that offered a higher level of professionalism and customer service than competitors.
In 1997, the brothers founded PLS Financial Services on that very foundation. Today PLS manages more than 350 PLS Check Cashers, PLS Loan Store and PLS Vehicle Registration locations in nine states, with over 3,000 employees. PLS is one of the fastest-growing and most profitable companies in its sector. Bob believes the company's customer service-oriented approach will help it achieve success as PLS continues to expand its portfolio of consumer services.
Bob serves as President of PLS along with his brother. Bob leads PLS Support Center, including legal, financial, government relations, and PLS Realty, the company's real estate development unit. He also oversees PLS Charities, which over the past two years has contributed more than $75,000 to neighborhood schools.
Bob is president of the Illinois Small Loan Association and a board member of Financial Service Centers of America. He is also an executive board member of the Chicagoland chapter of the Young Presidents' Organization (YPO).
